Touchdowns and Match Points


After coming up short in last year’s state championship game, the CCS Varsity Girls Volleyball team was ready to bounce back for a successful year and another run at a state title. The Knights opened up this year’s regular season on August 9 in a match against cross town rival Creekside Christian Academy. Both teams were looking to open up the season with a huge win to propel them into the heart of their schedule. Fans from both teams filled the stands, creating an electric atmosphere, adding an intense excitement to the match. As the game began, it was clear the Knights had the advantage, quickly defeating the Cougars in scores of 25-6, 25-6, and 25-5. Senior Cali Page remarked on the importance of this big win: “The fact that our first win of the year was against a big rival made the victory even sweeter.” The victories continued throughout the end of the week when the Lady Knights dominated on the court against Calvary Christian School in Columbus. Although school was not in session, the Lady Knights took time out of their free day to travel almost three hours to face the defending state champions. Maximum effort was displayed from both teams but the Community Lady Knights came out on top. Community prevailed over Calvary in scores of: 25-21, 25-16, and 25-14. The Lady Knights are back in action on August 22 against Peachtree Academy at CCS.

In preparation for another exciting football season, The Knights headed out west to Sparta, Georgia to scrimmage against Briarwood Academy. Though the game did not count to either schools’ record, both teams came into the game ready compete against new opposition. At the end of the first half, the Knights’ were down 28-14 and spirits were low. After an inspired halftime speech by Senior Luke Campbell, the knights came into the second half ready to mount a resounding comeback. Lead by Seniors Ashton Hughes, with 3 touchdowns, Marcell Gleaton, with 2 touchdowns, and Damarion “Pepe” Williams, with 2 touchdowns, the Knights completed their comeback, shutting out Briarwood in the second half, and winning by a score of 42-28. The Knights look to open the regular season with a win against Griffin Christian at 7:30, August 19, at Henry County High school.
